Shit. Aren't you a brilliant little mind. My only note is on the Tory bashing. Not that Tories don't deserve bashing, but it lets others off the hook. This is a wider problem, too. It isn't just mental health or addiction. It is tribalism, or the othering of others. It is Maggie and Reagan's fault. They, in my opinion, rolled back the progress made slowly after ww2. They broke the notion of the commons, they broke the value of taxation, they broke the future and instead fed the myth of individualism. Tax rates in the 60s were a great deal fairer then now. And that was when the infrastructure we enjoy was built. And we are slowly living in the crumbling remnants. We wonder why health care and schooling have declined even as we vote for lower taxes and lobbied tax breaks. I digress. I like your brain. But I am just an old drunk so don't let it go to your head.
this was a post I made a year ago and since the tories are out, yes, 100% the tory bashing let so so many people off the hook. It’s fucking everyone’s fault lowkey. I’m damned if I do damned if I don’t try access the nhs, AI, get a job that makes me physically and mentally sick bc benefits have been slashed. I feel like the reason we’re backsliding so badly is because we don’t have the capacity for revolutionary action anymore for the same reason the Green party will never get elected in the UK: it’s supporters are too spread out for any meaningful unionisations and the punishment for being a small unit attempting to cause revolution far outweighs the benefits for anyone to even attempt. Good on Luigi Mangione or whatever the fuck for killing the US health secretary but mans going to jail for life and our generation fucking fucked it by memeing the hell out of him just cuz he’s hot. The worst bit about watching it all happen is most people don’t even fucking care as long as they get the dopamine hits they want (phone, drugs) to mask out (and therefore perpetuate) this horrible generational nihilism for the future. We all know using the phones makes us more mentally ill, we all know using AI is unethical and so is SHIEN and fast fashion and coffee. We all know reposting a fucking instagram story about GAZA does sweet fuck all for the literal genocide happening. We don’t care. We love the dopamine hit from posting on instagram. We love the convenience and safety of conversations with AI because it can never hurt us in a meaningful way. It goes so far beyond the tories it’s crazy. We’ve been forced into collective addiction that makes us apathetic towards our actual livelihoods (jobs, third spaces, access to fucking healthcare) being stripped away. We can see it, we talk abt it constantly, we all know. We. Don’t. Care. And the worst part is I’m not exempt 😭😭 I don’t fucking care because I can’t do shit about shit I’m only 20 and chronically ill like I’m never going to be your man with a plan I’m just trying to get through my day as painlessly as possible

I wasn’t around during those times (I was born in 2004 lol I didn’t even see 9/11) so can’t really make a worthwhile engagement with your point but I suspect you aren’t far off (although if we cast our minds further back we could start to blame the Catholic Church and religious nihilism in a more Nietzsche style) I fully agree that on a broader scale it’s the “othering of others”. I think this is going down in a much larger and scarier way than people are aware of. What I think is happening is the othering of others through technological advances. Humans are going to be othered from other humans that don’t keep up with integrating AI. Humans will eventually be othered from AIs as a collective. People can gaslight themselves and think getting a brainchip will preserve them from being left behind in the world but it fucking will not unless you start off as a billionaire already😭 We’re living in the age of technofeudalism where we have NO FUCKING IDEA WHO OUR OVERLORDS ARE. IT’S LOWKEY NO ONE? AN AI? SEVERAL LEVELS OF AI ADMINISTRATION ON TOP OF EACH OTHER? Money is being siphoned out of circulation due to social media and AI and the works. Things are getting and are going to get very very very strange. The end stage of capitalism as I see it is people being forced to work for pennies to create these machine learning systems, or to create the physical machines they can operate, or to say fuck it and get a brain chip and join the AI slop machine. I think a lot of people are very focused on the past to try piece together the present, which historically is SUPPOSED to work but we didn’t have AI that makes real things look fake and fake things look real now. We’re going to reach a stage where we can’t rely on anything to be REAL. We can’t rely on the free market or even have the security to simply /get a job/ on a much scarier level than we’ve ever witnessed before. It’s unprecedented.
